OUR CURRICULUM

Per IDOE requirement, not later than July 15, 2023, and by each July 15, annually thereafter, Indiana school corporations and charter schools must post the following on their website:

  • Name and publisher of the school corporation/charter school’s adopted reading and writing curriculum by grade level;

  • Information on remedial programs provided by the school corporation/charter school by grade level; and

  • Contact information for an administrative contact for any questions.

In accordance with the IDOE requirements above, the relevant BCS information is as follows:

Blackford Primary School  

  • Reading and writing curriculum for grades Kindergarten through 2 all use Magnetic Reading foundations (a Curriculum Associates series of curricular products that includes a foundational skills reading program providing explicit, systematic instruction that moves students from foundational skills to reading fluency. High-interest fiction and nonfiction texts draw young readers to grade-level learning, helping to solidify crucial foundational skills. Age-appropriate learning opportunities ensure all students are engaged and have access to the right content at the right time). Additional curricular resources include Heggerty phonological and phonemic awareness materials, and Smekens Comprehension Playbook materials.  

  • BPS embeds daily intervention and remediation opportunities through tier 1 remediation strategies, tier 2 SUCCESS groups, tier 3 one-on-one interventionist interactions. Additionally, BPS offers Accelerated Learning for targeted groups after school hours.

Blackford Intermediate School  

  • Reading and writing curriculum for grades 3 through 6 all use Smekens Comprehension Playbook materials.  

  • BIS embeds daily intervention and remediation opportunities through tier 1 remediation strategies, tier 2 SUCCESS groups, tier 3 one-on-one interventionist interactions (Orton-Gillingham / Sonday System). Additionally, BIS offers Accelerated Learning for targeted groups after school hours.
