Volunteering Opportunities

Hello, citizens of Blackford, I am here to inform you of the volunteering opportunities here at BJSHS. If anybody is interested in these opportunities, see Mrs. Fear in room 246, or email her at kfear@blackfordschools.org

Secret Christmas Families have several volunteer opportunities available. The first one is for the Bowling Tournament that is on November 20th. You have the option to work at the raffle prizes. When working at the raffle prizes, you can also create a prize to be raffled, if you would rather do that instead.

Another opportunity at the Bowling Tournament which is working with the registration. When working for registration, you can also get a team and register to bowl, if you want to participate in the tournament.

Finally, you can work for the bake sale. In a bake sale, you can bring in items, such as cookies, pies, cakes, lemon bars, rice krispy treats, cupcakes, oat bars, and much more! Although you can bring/donate items for the bake sale, you can also work for it, like sell the items and collect the money from the sale at a table in the back of the bowling alley.

The second opportunity is delivering trees to families on December 5th. You will get the trees from Grace United Methodist Church (312 W Washington St, Hartford City, IN 47348), and load them in a car or truck, with a trailer. After they are loaded you deliver them to the families. Mrs. Fear said she did not know if they were doing this because she does not know if the church is selling them this year.

The third opportunity is to help with the Secret Christmas Families on December 12th. The shopping is at the Meijer in Muncie (6260 W McGalliard Rd, Muncie, IN 47304), to get the gifts being delivered to the families. The Elks Lodge in Hartford City (3104 N Walnut St, Hartford City, IN 47348) is where the wrapping will take place. After the wrapping, we deliver the gifts to the families.

I ended up asking Mrs. Fear how many people volunteer every year, and she responded saying, “We had 5 show up to the breakfast last month, but some that signed up did not show up, so I do not know if all the students that sign up are going to show up or not.”

Volunteering sign up sheets for the others are on the door of room 246, her room, for anybody interested in participating in the volunteering opportunities.

I hope this helped you understand the volunteering opportunities for the future. I hope that you or your child will participate in these opportunities. Thank you for reading this, and I hope you have a good day, and stay safe during this pandemic.
