Blackford County Schools would like to thank the Blackford County Community Foundation and all the generous donors who made another fantastic Senior Awards Sunday possible at BJSHS.
According to Elizabeth Witt, BCCF director, 57 scholarships were presented to BCS seniors this year. Many of the scholarships presented are in honor of loved ones who have passed away.
There were a number of touching moments during the event, but one highlight was the presentation of the first Gavyn Orlando Memorial Scholarship, made by his mother, Jill Orlando. Gavyn, a 2025 BJSHS graduate, recently passed away in a tragic accident. His mother shared about his life and what made him so special. Surrounded by her family, Mrs. Orlando announced that Sean Cronin III would be the first recipient of the Gavyn Orlando Memorial Scholarship.
We are proud of Sean and all of our BJSHS seniors and their accomplishments.
We also thank the BCCF for all their efforts in making the scholarships happen for our students.
Last, but certainly not least, thank you to everyone who has generously donated to a scholarship or presented a scholarship to one of our Bruins. We know what this means to you and appreciate your continued support of our students and their futures!

Capt. Matt Sneed and his K9 partner, Jeb, visited the Criminal Justice, law enforcement and corrections classes of BJSHS teacher Mike Jones. Capt. Sneed gave a presentation on the Grant County Sheriff's Offices K9 program and explained that his partner is an electronics detection dog, one of only 5 in the state of Indiana and 200 in the USA, trained to find electronic devices such as Zip drives, SD Cards, cell phones, vapes, computers or anything that might be used to hide digital evidence. Capt. Sneed brought several items that were used to train Jeb and then gave a demonstration, where Jeb located several devices.

It's Field Trip Time at BCS! Both our students and staff love it when they can celebrate the hard work in the classroom by getting out of the building to see and learn something new. Mrs. Linda Wallace's class ventured out to the Gas City Park to feed the animals. They also enjoyed a meal at King's Buffet in Marion together! What a fun day!
