How do you celebrate Thanksgiving in the BJSHS English/Language Arts (ELA Maintenance) class? By playing PIE in the face! But it’s not your typical pie, the "pie" stands for persuade, inform, entertain! According to their teacher Shelby Capper, "After a week of learning about author’s purpose, students read short informative paragraphs and determined what the author’s purpose was to earn getting pied in the face! " Great work, Bruins!

As our Administrative Team continues its focus on making Blackford County Schools the best it can be, Assistant Superintendent David Parker and BCS principals took the show on the road with a presentation yesterday at the Indiana Principal's Association meeting in Indianapolis. Joining Parker were Jason Ridge, Jim Fox and Craig Campbell. During their presentation, the Admin team discussed BCS' effort of improving staff evaluation observations and professional development opportunities as two of the ways BCS helps teachers continue to improve their skills- which, in turn, improves student performance. #BruinProud

Last school year, the team enjoyed a lot of success and their coach, Mrs. Jen Gallatin, hopes this season is much the same. For the photos, the team was joined by 2024 BJSHS graduate and Manchester University freshman Darius "Dr. Stank" Osborn, who won a scholarship to Manchester University for his outstanding gaming abilities. This year's team includes (from left) Christian "Mr. Man" McConnell, Zayne "John Heavyweight" Rodarmel, Bentley "SharkManiac9" Storer, Darius "Dr. Stank" Osborne, Isaac "ZOMBIE07REAPER" Sokolowski and Coach Gallatin. How do we make the lesson memorable? By making it fun! First grade students in Mrs. Rachael Story's class had to recognize and grab the correct blended sound before their partner. Talk about some quick thinking! Great job, Cubs! #BetterAtBlackford

The second grade students at Blackford Primary School were given the opportunity to write Thank You notes to Richard (Dick) Thurman, Army 101st Airborne Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Thurman was a member of an Honor Flight on September 14, 2024. While on the flight home from Washington, D.C. they had a mail call. Mr. Thurman was given a packet of thank you notes and pictures written by the second grade students. Mr. Thurman wanted to come and thank the students personally for their kindness. He came to Blackford Primary School on Tuesday, September 12, 2024. Mr. Thurman discussed with the students what a veteran is, and why veterans should be honored. He also shared with the second graders about his duties while serving in Vietnam, the medals he was awarded, and even brought in his dress uniform for the students to see. #BruinProud

The votes are in! Mrs. Julia Hiatt's first grade class at BPS was excited for Election Day. We read the story Duck for President by Doreen Cronin. Students got to vote for who they thought should be president... Duck or Farmer Brown. They got to vote in the voting booth and the class voted by a landslide of 14 to 9. The class wanted Duck to be President!! We had fun making a vote and deciding on who they would want to run the farm. What a great lesson! Congratulations, Duck! #BetterAtBlackford
