Blackford Spotlight - Mrs. Sarah Penny's 3rd grade class at BIS: "Third graders in Mrs. Penny’s class got to take advantage of the beautiful day that we had Monday by taking their writing lesson outside. The students learned about vivid verbs. After they learned about vivid verbs they had to write a story with them. They had so much fun using words that were more exciting in their writing." - Mrs. Penny Nice work, Bears! #ChooseBCS

Blackford Spotlight- Mrs. Amanda Green's 4th grade class at Blackford Intermediate School: "The 4th graders at BIS have been learning about the different forces that impact airplanes while they are flying (thrust, drag, lift, and gravity/weight). The weather was finally nice enough to go outside to test the forces on our paper airplanes and compare them to airplanes we use in real life!" - Mrs. Green

Blackford Spotlight- Mrs. Amanda Green's 4th grade class at Blackford Intermediate School: The 4th graders at BIS are currently learning about nutrition through a project called "The Great Grow Along." The students will be getting to work with 2 live animals (rats) for about 5 weeks. One will be given milk, the other will be given sugar water. They will then switch and get the other liquid. The students will be measuring the weight of the rats, their tail length, and their behavior throughout the experiment to see the differences between the 2 rats while they are with us. Of course the students have also loved getting to hold them as well! We are very thankful to Via Credit Union who provided a grant that purchased ALL of the materials necessary for the students to get to participate in this program! - Mrs. Green #ChooseBCS #VCU

Blackford Spotlight - Mrs. Carma Reidy's 3rd grade class at Blackford Intermediate School: "My class has been reading two texts about the same subject. We read a book called, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and an article titled Ryan’s Well. We compared the two characters and their traits, what similarities/differences of the characters. We then put ourselves in the characters “shoes”. How could we create a windmill using only “junk”? The students' STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activity was to build their own windmill using the materials we had in our classroom. The students did a lot of problem solving to create their windmills. Way to go future engineers!!!" - Mrs. Reidy #ChooseBCS
