Attention, Attention, Bruins!

It was a whirlwind weekend of history and fun, but our BJSHS 8th graders (and their parent chaperones) are still in recovery mode from this year's Washington DC trip. Congratulations to Logan Wilson, Grace McCammon, Bray Bacon and Maisy Fox for writing winning essays that allowed them to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The seventh grade Civics students conducted a mock trial in Dr. Kevin Biddle's class at BJSHS. Jack King and Jill Hamilton sued Harvey Miller for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering claiming that he created an attractive nuisance by having a well at the top of the hill with loose stones and slippery mud that led to their falling down. Jack broke the crown of his tooth and Jill suffered two broken bones as they tumbled the dangerous hill. According to Dr. Biddle, Mr. Miller's defense team argued successfully that Jack and Jill were guilty of contributory negligence as they were trespassing and taking his water without express written or verbal permission. The jury also found that both teens were old enough to understand the assumption of risk. Therefore, Mr. Miller was not found responsible and was not ordered to pay. #BetterAtBlackford

“It takes a village.” A message from Mrs. Monica Myers, our CTE Teaching and Learning Instructor: "It takes a village." The Blackford School Community truly takes responsibility for supping and educating our students past and future. For the past few months my CTE Teaching & Learning students Carter Clouse, Zoey Abbott and Gracie Johnson have spent a few hours a week observing and engaging in classrooms at BPS and BIS. For the last couple weeks, students in Mrs. Rachael Shadiow's 3rd grade class at BIS partnered with students in Mrs. Katie Barnes' 4th grade class to complete a research project on endangered or extinct animals. Today, the groups presented to other 3rd grade classrooms and the students were able to vote on the animal they wanted to win. For those wondering, Mrs. Barnes said the Axolotl (photo 1) was the winner. For those wondering what an axolotl is: Axolotls are salamanders that remain in their larval stage throughout their lives. They are critically endangered and native to a small area of Mexico. Axolotls are known for their ability to regenerate lost body parts, and they are also popular pets due to their unique appearance and relatively easy care. (The more you know!) #BetterAtBlackford

Congratulations to our 2024-2025 Jennerjahn Most Influential Educators selected by this year's Top Ten Seniors! The teachers were honored with a banquet and special program sponsored by Mrs. Ruth Jennerjahn. During the event, students presented their Most Influential Educator with a personal small gift/token of esteem. We thank the teachers who have a made such a difference in the lives of a BJSHS senior and we thank Mrs. Jennerjahn for giving us an opportunity to honor these special educators!
